Ōtūwhare marae is located in Ōtūwhare, about 12 km southwest of Te Kaha. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Rutaia of Te Whānau a Apanui iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Poho o Rutaia, the wharekai is Tā Apirana. The marae connects ancestrally to Mātaatua and Tauira-mai-tawhiti waka, the maunga Rangipoua, the awa Haparapara and Paerata, and the moana Omāio.
