Ngāti Umutahi marae is located 3km inland from Matatā. The hapū that affiliate to this marae are Ngāti Iramoko, Te Tāwera and Ngāti Umutahi (Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki Pūtauaki) of Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau.
The whare is named Umutahi and the marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka, the maunga Pūtauaki and the awa Tarawera.
