Mangarama marae is located 8 km south of Te Kūiti, on State Highway 3. The principal hapū associated with Mangarama marae is Ngāti Apakura.
The wharenui is named after Rongorongo. The marae connects ancestrally to the tribal collective of Ngāti Maniapoto, the maunga Horohoro and the awa Mangarama.
