Whātāpaka

Whātāpaka marae is located along a private road at the end of Whātāpaka Road in Waiuku. The principal iwi associated with Whātāpaka is Ngāti Koheriki, Ngai Tai and Ngāti Tamaoho. The marae complex hosts the wharenui Tamaoho, the wharekai Te Kupenga and the wharemoe Te Ohaki o nga Tupuna. 

Whātāpaka marae sits upon a reservation, Parish of Karaka Lot 64D, which was set aside for the purpose of establishing a community plaza for the affiliated hapu. Whātāpaka marae, through the primary hapu of Ngāti Tamaoho, has occupied this area for close to 1000 years.
