Te Tai Rawhiti
Whāngārā is located between Gisborne and Tolaga Bay, 5 km southwest of Gable End Foreland and 2 km east of State Highway 35. The primary hapū to affiliate with this marae is Ngāti Konohi, Whāngārā features prominently in the early history of Ngāti Porou iwi.
The marae has two wharenui: Whitireia (with a carving of the ancestor Paikea atop) and Waho te Rangi; the wharekai is Te Hokowhitu a Tū. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Horouta and Tereānini, the maunga Pukehapopo and the awa Waiomoko.
