Te Whatuiāpiti marae is located in Pātangata, north-east of Ōtāne. Its principal hapū is Ngāti Whatuiāpiti of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.
The wharenui is also called Te Whatuiāpiti. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu, the maunga Kauhehei and Kahurānaki and the Tukituki awa .
