Te Rākatō marae is located on Kaiwaitau Road, north of Māhia settlement. Its principal hapū is Ngāi Rākatō of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.

Te Rākatō connects ancestrally to the waka Kurahaupō and Takitimu, the maunga Taupiri and the awa Kōpuawhara.
