Te Pou ā Hīnau (Pouāhīnau) marae is located 32 km south of Whakatane. The primary hapū is Tūranga Pikitoi of Ngāi Tūhoe.

The whare tipuna is named Tūranga Pikitoi. Te Pou ā Hīnau connects ancestrally to the Mataatua waka, the maunga Maungapōhatu and the awa Tauranga.
