Taiporohēnui marae is located at the eastern end of Hawera. Its principal hapū are Hāmua and Hāpōtiki of the iwi Ngāti Ruanui.
The wharenui is named Koutu ki te Rangi. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Aotea and the maunga Taranaki.
