Petāne marae is located on Tait Road, Bayview. Its principal hapū are Ngāti Matepū and Ngāti Whakaari of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Amiki. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu, the maunga Hikurangi and Ōtātara, and the awa Waiohinganga (Esk River).
