Oromāhoe marae is located roughly 15 km inland of Waitangi on Porotu Road off State Highway 10. The principal hapu are Ngāti Kawa, Ngāti Rāhiri, Whānaurara, Ngāre Hauata and Matarahurahu of Ngāpuhi. Its identity is associated with the maunga Pouerua, with Lake Owhareiti and the Waiaruhe River.
Ngāti Kawa is the name of the wharenui and the wharekai is Kuiapo. Adjacent to Oromāhoe marae is the whare karakia named Matiu.
