Ngāraratunua

Ngāraratunua marae is located on the corner of Pipiwai and Church roads in Ngāraratunua, Whangarei. It affiliates to the Ngāpuhi confederation and its primary hapu is Te Kahu o Torongare. It is sometimes referred to as Te Paea.

The wharenui is named Te Paea Soldiers' Memorial; it was originally a hall, and was named by Canon Wiremu Keretene after his wife, Te Paea. Ngāraratunua marae takes its name from the nearby maunga, Ngāraraitunua, and it also connects ancestrally to the maunga Hurupaki, Kaihau, Parihaka, Parikiore and Te Rawhitiroa. Ngāraratunua connects to the waka Ngātokimatawhaorua and the awa Hatea-Hoteo, Te Maruarua, Te Wairua and Umukaraka.
