Mātāwai

Mātāwai marae is located 70 km inland from Gisborne, near the edge of Te Urewera National Park. It primary affiliates with the hapū Ngā Pōtiki and Ngāti Mātāwai of Te Aitanga ā Māhaki.

The wharenui is called Tapapa and the wharekai is Rangimarie. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Horouta, the awa Motu and the two maunga of Pukehinau and Maungahaumi.
