Mangawhero marae (also known as Ōtangaoro) can be found north of Kaeo and south of the Whangaroa Harbour (off State Highway 10) in the area called Ōtangaroa.
It is home to the hapu Ngātirangimatakakaa, Ngātirangimatamomoe and Te Hōia of Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa. Their wharenui is named Te Aroha.
