Kauangāroa marae is located in Kauangāroa, alongside the Whangaehu River. Its hapū include Ngāti Huru Te Ra, Ngāti Houmahanga, Ngāti Hinga, Ngāti Mokahu, Ngāti Paenga, Ngāti Tukorero of the iwi Ngā Wairiki, with connections also to Ngāti Apa.
The wharenui, Kimihia te Maramatanga, was built in 1895. The wharekai is Te Puna Ora o Porini. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Kurahaupō, the maunga Ruapehu and the awa Whangaehu.
