Kakanui (Tīpapa) marae is located 2.5 km from Ruatāhuna in Te Urewera. The primary hapū is Kakahu-Tapiki of Ngāi Tūhoe.
The whare tipuna is named Kakahu-Tapiki. Kakanui (Tīpapa) connects ancestrally to the Mātaatua waka, the maunga Maungapōhatu and the moana Waikaremoana.
