Ōmāio marae is located in Ōmāio, about 13 km southwest of Te Kaha on State Highway 35. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Nuku of Te Whānau a Apanui iwi.
The wharenui is called Rongomaihuatahi and the wharekai is Te Rau Aroha. The marae connects ancestrally to Mātaatua and Tauira-mai-tawhiti waka, the maunga Rangipoua, the moana Ōmāio, and three awa: Haparapara, Rerepa and Waioira.
