Tātāhoata marae is located in Ruatāhuna, 1 km east of the Whakatane River on Mataatua Road. The primary hapū is Ngāi Te Rurehe (Ngāi Te Riu) of the iwi Ngāi Tuhoe.
Tātāhoata is adjacent to Uwhiārae marae. The wharenui is called Te Tapuae (built in 1932). The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Mataatua, the maunga Manawaru and the awa Ōhinemataroa.
