Rangatira marae is located just west of Te Karaka, across the Waipaoa River. It belongs to the hapū Ngāti Wahia of Te Aitanga ā Māhaki.
The wharenui is called Whakahau. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Horouta, the awa Waipaoa and the maunga Maungahaumi.
