Poukura marae is located in Kuratau, on the west side of Lake Taupō on Ngāti Parekaawa Drive, off Karangahape Road. The primary hapū is Ngāti Parekaawa of the iwi Ngāti Tūwharetoa.
The wharepuni is called Parekaawa and the wharekai is Ruahine. The marae connects ancestrally to the roto Taupō, and the awa Kuratau.
