Pūkeko marae is located just south of Whakatāne, on the banks of the Whakatāne River. The primary hapū is Ngāti Pūkeko of Ngāti Awa.
The whare tipuna is also called Pūkeko and the wharekai Rangimamao. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Mataatua, the maunga Pūtauaki and the awa Whakatāne.
