Hahuru marae is located north of Kawerau, close to the Tarawera River (Te Awa o Te Atua). The primary hapu are Ngāi Tamarangi and Ngāti Peehi of Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau (Bay of Plenty).
The whare tupuna is also called Hahuru and the wharekai is Hinemotu. The marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka, the awa Tarawera and the maunga Pūtauaki.
