Waingaro marae is located 7 km south of Waingaro and 25 kilometres northeast of Raglan, on the northern shores of the Whaingāroa (Raglan) Harbour. Its primary hapū are Ngaati Tamainupoo, Toa Kotara and Te Huaki.
The whare tupuna is Ngā Tokotoru. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the moana Whaingaroa, the awa Oohautira and the maunga Pongawhakatihi, Rawhitiroa and Karioi.
