Body:
Pūrekireki marae is located 6km to the south of Pirongia township. Its primary hapū is Ngāti Taramatau (with affiliations also to Ngāti Apakura) of Ngāti Hikairo, sharing links also with Waikato and Ngāti Maniapoto iwi.
The whare tupuna is Marutehiakina. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the maunga Pirongia and the awa Waipā.
