Motairehe marae is located in Katherine Bay, on the northwestern coast of Aotea (Great Barrier Island), north of Kawa marae. The hapū are Ngāti Rehua, Ngatiwai ki Aotea belong to the iwi Ngāti Wai.
The wharenui is named Whakaruruhau, whichis adjoined by a wharekai Waipahihi and the wharekaumatua Wharekōwhai.
