Āruka marae is located below the Kāwhia harbour, 67 km west of Otorohanga, on the edge of Lake Taharoa and close to the west coast. The primary hapū for Āruka marae is Ngāti Mahuta of Waikato-Tainui.
The whare tupuna is Tahaaroa. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the awa Mitiwai, the moana Kāwhia and the maunga Orangiwhao.
