Akura marae is located 3 km north of Masterton. Its principal hapū is Ngāti Hamua of Rangitāne (with connections also to Ngāti Kahungunu).
The marae connects ancestrally to the the waka Kurahaupō. the maunga Rangitūmau and the awa Ruamahanga.
