Ōhotu marae is located 2 km west of Rūātoki. The primary hapū is Te Whānau Pani of Ngāi Tūhoe.

The whare tipuna is named Tūhoe Pōtiki. Ōhotu marae connects ancestrally to the Mataatua waka, the maunga Maungapōhatu and the awa Whakatāne.
