Tutetawhā marae is located on State Highway 1, Waitahanui, about 12 km south of Taupō. Its principal hapū is Ngāti Tutetawhā of Ngāti Tūwharetoa iwi.
The wharenui is also named Tutetawhā. The marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka, the maunga Tauhara and Naamu, the awa Mangamutu and the moana Taupō-nui-a-Tia.
