Maraenui Pā is located in Maraenui, about 38 kilometres east of Ōpōtiki. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Hikarukutai of Te Whānau a Apanui iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Iwarau. The wharekai is Tumatauenga. The marae connects ancestrally to Mātaatua and Tauira-mai-tawhiti waka, the maunga Ōtūkani and the awa Mōtū (Ōhinemōtū).
