Mōkai Kāinga marae is located just 5 km north of Kawhia township, on the west coast of the North Island (Te Ika a Maui). The primary hapū for this marae Ngāti Pare and Ngāti Te Mihinga hapū of Ngāti Hikairo. Mōkai Kāinga is also connected to Waikato-Tainui tribal confederation.
The whare tipuna is Ko Te Mōkai. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the moana Kawhia, the maunga Pirongia and the awa Waipa.
